What's a Wedding Wishing Tree?
By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
"What's a wedding wishing tree?" was exactly what I asked when a bride-to-be mentioned to me that she was making one for her wedding. I was fascinated by what she was describing and Googled it as soon as I could to see one for myself. I came across an instructional step-by-by guide here at Here Comes The Guide that describes a wishing tree as a "Dutch wedding custom where guests are given a piece of paper, either shaped like a leaf or made of card stock. The guests write their wishes to the bride and groom and then hang it on the tree. This creates a gorgeous centerpiece and the tree is placed at the entrance to the reception to wow your guests right when they walk in."

For your guests you can use these rectangle wood tags that cost $0.25 each since they are much sturdier than paper and would hold up better over the years but you can find so many beautifully designed tags here on Etsy.

Are Chair Covers a waist of money?
By Carlise (Carla) ShepperdI've had many brides complained to me that when they do find a venue that is perfect for their budget the chairs at the venue are such a horrible color or they are just metal, folding chairs. There was one bride who got to use her church's dining hall for free but her only problem was the chairs. She struggled with the dilemma of renting new chairs to "spice the place up a bit," but at a cost of $3.00 per chair, plus the work or removing the old ones...she thought the whole process was just too much trouble. So she decided that renting some chair covers for about $1.50 would solve all her problems with the room and was surprised at how much the covers transformed the space.
I know there is the argument that once the guests are seated no one will see those chair covers and that's a great point but what it boils down to is what the couple want their guests to see and feel when they walk into that reception room. Most brides I know want the guests to be wowed by the beauty of the room upon entering it and personally, I find that chair covers makes a room look that much more elegant, especially if the ones that come with the venue doesn't match the wedding colors or theme at all. Some even have those metal folding chairs which could look horrid if you're going for something refine.
You can find chair covers for under $2.00 HERE that you can resell after your wedding or you can rent some for about $1.25 per piece from an event supply store in your area.
Remember, at the end of the day, it's your party, so you do what you to do.

Thinking of Buying on Ebay!
By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
I would be the first to admit that Ebay is a fantastic source for small budget brides who are looking for wedding items at a bargain price. One thing you should note though when shopping on Ebay is that the sellers that offer excellent service, with the highest buyer ratings and who ships their items quickly now carry a Top-rated Seller badge.

This is extremely comforting to buyers, myself included, who have had a bad experience with an Ebay seller. I did get a refund for the set of Junie B. Jones books that I purchased yet was never shipped to me but as you can imagine it did make me quite leery about buying anything from Ebay again. That is why you should always be careful when shopping online and read as many customers' reviews as you can! Now with the Top-rated Seller badge shown with each item from the best sellers on Ebay, it certainly will cut down on how many reviews we'll have to read before finally making that decision to buy...or not to buy.

Hire a photography student to take photos at your wedding for under $500!
By Carlise (Carla) ShepperdFor many brides-to-be planning a wedding on a small budget, there are things that we'd love to have at our wedding but unfortunately the budget won't allow it. For example, I would love to hire a professional photographer to take photos for at least six hours on our wedding day. However, with all the research I've done, I know it would take a junk out of the budget.
I've gotten a quote of $700 from an amateur photographer who wants to build her portfolio since she's just stating out but since she lives in another state and plans to do it while she is vacationing, I'm not putting her on my short list.
Recently, I read a story of a bride who hired an art student for $350 who raves about the photos even now because she said they were even more amazing than some professional portfolios she’d browsed. So with that in mind, I picked up the phone not too long along and called the Arts Institute on Tennessee. I politely asked if it was possible for me to speak with someone in the Media Arts Program. Once I was connected, I told explained to them why I was calling and they were more than willing to help me. I am ready to hire any of the students just yet, but I may not even need to call back since I found a group of students from that college on FaceBook and it's easier and more efficient to contact them there directly.
Most students are eager to make some extra money, but who isn't these days but still I was surprised that I was quoted just $300 for pre-ceremony, ceremony and reception photos from one student.
I wanted to share this story for all the small budget brides out there who are thinking about skipping a photographer all together. Just contact a college in your area that you know offer photography courses. You can even search for the school on FaceBook and see what or who you find. A student with at least a year of training is recommended and don't forget to ask to see photos that they've previously taken. You want to be sure they can provide you with some incredible pictures at the end of the day, even if their price is perfect for your budget. Having him or her take some engagement photos of you and your hubby way in advance might be a great way for you to judge for yourself whether or not you'll need to find someone else.
