DIY - A Pine Cone Centerpiece

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
For a modern twist on the centerpiece, pinecones and craspedias filled large apothecary jars in the middle of each table.
Look how creative this centerpiece is and it matches the table decor perfectly. During the Fall and Winter months pine cones are everywhere you go. At our local parks there are usually so many of them that service men gather them up to keep the parks looking clean. So they are something that you can definitely find for free to use in your centerpieces.

Below is the exact urn as seen in the photo but I also added more options for you to choose from. So once you have the urns and the pine cones, it's just a matter of putting them together.

A fantastic alternative to using Sky Lanterns to light up your Wedding night!

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd

The video above features a Sky Lantern display which we can all agree is quite beautiful. I've been searching for these online and they're very hard to find here in the U.S.A but the good news is that I've found an alternative.

white balloon.jpeg

What are they you ask? Well, have a look at the 16" white balloons with LED lights above. You can use them at an outdoor wedding reception for added lighting and at the end of the night, let your guests release them into the sky just like the sky lanterns. They are much safer too so you won't have to worry about anyone catching on fire.

You can find them HERE
not only in the white but in fun colors like orange, blue and many others too.

For a memorable touch, guests can write a special wish for you, the newlyweds, and tie them to the strings of the balloons. Releasing the light with the note into the heavens I find to be an absolutely, splendid way to end that magical night!

Once again, you can find these balloons with LED lights HERE at save-on-crafts.com and they will cost you $10.80 for a pack of five. You can choose to get just a few or a whole bunch, either way, it will still be a cheaper alternative to using the Sky Lanterns and you would certainly get the same look but for less.

The best part about them are that they are not expensive either, as a matter of fact, 144 pieces cost just $19.99. That many fruit can create some beautiful centerpieces that you can set up weeks before your wedding and save yourself the stress of worrying about decay on your big day.

If you are interested in where you to this set of fake fruit then go HERE to save-on-crafts.com. Not only can you find the fake fruit but also apothecary jars, like the ones in the picture above.  I've listed the cheaper ones below for you.

Paper Lanterns on Shepperd's Hook

Shepherd‘s hooks, which held purple lanterns and were accented with deep purple ribbon, lined the pathways outside the reception space.
I loved this idea as soon as I saw it because it's different, colorful and could be replicated very easily!

A Plum Purple Wedding Theme

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
http://weddingchicks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/purpleweddingideas1.jpg

Even since seeing the plum and robin egg blue together in the Eco-Beautiful Weddings magazine, I've been searching for more images with that color combo but have found very few. The one above came from the Wedding Chicks and I love it! I've put together a few ideas using the plum as the main color and aqua (blue) as the accent color. These are colors I would love to use in my wedding so this post is mainly about what's in my head right now.

For the cake, DIY cupcakes seems perfect, decorated with blue frosting and a purple butterflies that sell at Crafta.com for $2.79 and that price is for a set of 25.

cupcakes.JPGcupcakes.JPG

Flowers for this theme can be a bouquet with different shades of purple that are found all year long at fiftyflowers.com! If you try this don't be afraid of adding some green to bulk up your centerpieces since as you can see in the photos below, it won't over-power the purple that easily.

Blue Vase.jpg

I choose an aqua vase for the centerpiece because with the purple it's so visually stunning! The vase you can find here at giantfood.com for $8.99!! Just look at it altogether! The blue vase really makes a statement and if you want to use plum tablecloths to create an even more enchanting look go here to linentablecloth.com to find them starting at $8.95!

The wedding party would most likely be in plum but I see the guys wearing plum ties with a black vest and jacket suit.

I'll update it as I go along but there is no denying that plum and blue make awesome wedding, color theme!!

On Tuesday, December 15, the revolutionary magazine Eco-Beautiful Weddings was launched to help brides-to-be plan a wedding that's friendly to the environment. It's packed with tons of advice that will help you the bride go green for your wedding without going broke in the process. And no, an environmentally friendly wedding doesn't mean that your guest have to drink from mason jars, your wedding can be as chic and classy as you are, but just eco-friendly as well!

Be sure to pay close attention to the DIY photo booth on pages 62 & 63! The robin egg blue and plum colors alone are enough to get your attention but it's also a very creative way to provide entertainment for your guests without having to fork over hundreds of dollars to rent a mobile one instead. Small and Simple Centerpieces can be quite beautiful too.

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
The red tulips in the centerpieces not only held sentimental value, they achieved that sleek and modern look Leigh wanted, when arranged in turquoise glass vases.
If you are trying to save money on your wedding, one way to cut cost is choosing to have small, simple table centerpieces. You don't have to place a large, over-the-top centerpiece on your table to make it look stellar. To prove this point,  I've compiled a list of photos from TheKnot.com that will show you that small and simple can be breath-taking too.

Small flower arrangements of orchids and snake grass in bubble vases added a splash of color to the cocktail tables.
Chocolate linens and apple green napkins covered the tables. For the centerpieces, hurricane vases displayed earthy arrangements of wheatgrass, gerbera daises and green apples.

The couple placed cocktail tables on a patio to encourage guests to leave the reception tent and get a view of the nearby cities. The simple table decorations, a pincushion protea on a bed of stones in water, didn’t compete with the surrounding city light...
The couple thought outside the vase for their unique arrangements: Blue ribbon tied dahlias to vases, which each held a candle inside. With a setup this surprising, the couple didn‘t need more than one bloom per centerpiece.

Simple, striking, large, glass vases were filled with geometric branches and hanging capris strings.
Round tables topped with various colored flowers brightened the reception room.
Tea tins filled with purple, orange, and green flowers graced each table at Leigh and David’s reception.
