An Affordable, Delicious Wedding Cake Alternative: The Donut Tree

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
donut cakes.jpg

If you are a bride who is looking coloring outside the lines, then you can chose to have a Donut Tower or Donut Tree at your wedding instead of a wedding cake. A Donut Tree is a very affordable option. Since a box of 12 donuts is around $5.00 at most grocery stores, for a tower with 120 donuts and you'll spend $50.00!

Even considering the price of the stand, you'll still spend $100 or much less for your wedding cake alternative and as you can see in the photos, they can be just as pretty too!

Looking a new flavor for your Fall Wedding cupcakes, well I got a wonderful one for you. It's a pumpkin spice and pecan recipe that just spells F.A.LL. It will definitely be a pleasant and unexpected bite for your wedding guests and if that's what you want, then give this recipe a try.

Ingredients
  • 1 box(es) chocolate cake mix (such as Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Devil's Food Mix)
  • 2 teaspoon(s) pumpkin-pie spice
  • 2/3 cup(s) pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup(s) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup(s) finely ground pecans

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Lightly butter and flour I3 round cake pans -- 6, 8, and 10 inches. (If making the tiered cake, plan also to double the recipe.) Take care to cover all crevices and corners.
  3. Place all of the ingredients plus 3/4 cup water in a large mixing bowl and beat, using a mixer set on medium-high speed, until batter is smooth.
  4. Fill the cake pan(s), divide batter evenly.) Bake until a skewer inserted into the center tests clean -- about 35 minutes for the pumpkin cakes; 25 minutes for the 6-inch, 30 minutes for the 8-inch, and 35 minutes for the 10-inch layers of the tiered cake. Cool completely on a wire rack before frosting or decorating.

A $12.00 Wedding Cake?

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
Photo: Cheap weddings

The except below is from an article written about a budget bride and her husband who held a wedding valued at $20,000 but the actual money this couple spent was only $6,000.

I just had to share this cake idea since the cost to them was only $12.00.

Who knew you could rent a cake?

"I was able to find a vendor who literally makes a Styrofoam replica of a cake decorated with fondant and regular icing," says Tavon. "I actually sent her some ribbon and lace and she put it on herself."

"There's a little slot in the back," she explained. "So we were able to have pictures of us cutting into 'our cake.' "

The staff then whisked the fake cake out of sight and served the guests $40 worth of sheet cake from the supermarket.

Cost? $12, compared with $600 for an actual wedding cake.

But what about saving the top layer for their first anniversary? The bride just laughs it off.

"I would have eaten that cake a long time ago."

How Cupcake Cuddlers can save you money!

By Carlise (Carla) Shepperd
Cupcake Tower.JPG

The cupcakes in the photo above are in a custom cupcake holder called a Cupcake Cuddler. I came across this site in my research and fell in love with the idea of having these cute creations accenting my cupcakes to give them an elegant, unique look. However, I bet you are wondering just how they can save you money?

Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, how about having a cupcake wedding cake instead. You can bake your own cupcakes at home, slip each one into a Cupcake Cuddler and you're set. You can get a 5 tiered cupcake stand for $29.99 HERE at efavormart.com and
you don't have to worry about wedding favors since your guest could eat the cupcake there or take it home in the cute Cupcake Cuddler. So that will be another thing you cross your list.

The Cuddlers cost $150.00 for 100. The stand $29.99 and the ingredients may be another 30 for 100 cupcakes. Som the total cost would be around $210 for an elegantly decorated cupcake wedding cake which doubles as wedding favors.
